All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ CHARLES MONROE COUNCILL Charles Monroe Councill died at his home in Burdette Saturday night, October 5, at about 10 o'clock in the thirty-eighth year of his life, after a brief illness from pneumonia brought on by Spanish influenza. The deceased was postmaster of Burdette and a merchant of that village. He was a consistent and useful member of Black Creek Baptist Church, one of the deacons of the church and a valuable member of the community. He was also a member of Bay Rose Camp No. 157, W.O.W. of Burdette. He was a kind and indulgent father and husband and will be missed by a wide circle of friends who esteemed and loved him. He is survived by his wife, two sons and one daughter; by his mother, Mrs. Virginia Councill of Burdette; two brothers, John R. Councill of Franklin and E.A. Councill of Burdette; three sisters Mrs. J.L. Holland of Unity, Mrs. J.F. Johnson of Windsor, Va., and Mrs. J.E. Hatfield of Burdette. The burial services were conducted in Black Creek cemetery where the interment was made Monday afternoon, October 7, at 3:30 o'clock, Rev. J.L. McCutcheon conducting the funeral rites. The pallbearers were R.E. Drewry, R.L. Corbett, Oscar Joyner, Paul Spivey, Hawke Lowe, J.H. Spivey, R.L. Lewis and Arthur Carr.
