COUNCILL PASSES AT AGE OF 93 George Thomas Councill, prominent in Isle of Wight, Nansemond and Southampton counties, died Tuesday morning at his home near Franklin at the age of 93. He was the son of Capt. Wiley Councill and Mrs. Nancy Howell Councill. He was the oldest member of Franklin Baptist Church, of which his father was a charter member and one of the founders of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. He was a member of one of the oldest families of Virginia and was born, lived and died on a part of a parcel of land given the family by the King of England. He was a skilled builder and there are many buildings throughout this section that show his handiwork. He had many friends and was loved by all who knew him. Surviving him are two sons, Benjamin W. Councill of Holland and Thomas A. Councill of Franklin; three daughters, Miss Hattie N. Councill and Mrs. M.G. Councill of Franklin and Mrs. Jessie Eubank of Richmond, and four grandchildren, Rodman, Thomas and Bobbie Eubank, of Richmond and B. Redwood Councill of Suffolk. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock at his home by the Rev. R.D. Stephenson of Franklin Baptist Church. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. A quartet composed of Mrs. Herbert Cobb, Mrs. Frank Howell, Edgar Weede and E.K. Brinkley sang "There is a Happy Land" and "The Sweet Bye and Bye." Pallbeaerers were Jas. Irving Beale, Edgar Weede, Henry Duck, Samuel D. Hellberg, William H. Cutchin, Joseph Fowler, Thomas Holland and E.C. Jernigan.
