PAUL COUNCILL, RETIRED FARMER DIES TUESDAY Services for James Paul Council 69, who died in Raiford Memorial Hospital on Tuesday afternoon at 5 o'clock, following an operation on the Thursday preceding, were conducted this (Thursday) afternoon at 4:30 o'clock in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Rev. Tucker G. Humphries, pastor of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church, officiated. Pallbearers were Harold S. Atkinson, J. Vaughan Beale, Samuel Bradshaw, Lawrence Council, Clifford A. Cutchins, 3rd, J. Letcher Eley, William Lankford, and G.E.. Pillow. Mr. Councill, a life-long resident of Southampton County, with his home in the Hunterdale community, was the son of the late James Jordan and Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Scott Councill and the husband of Mrs. Irva Winslow Councill. He was a member of the Franklin Congregational Christian Church. Before his retirement two years ago on account of ill health he was owner and operator of the J.P. Councill Company Plant Farm. He was a pioneer in the raising of vegetable plants in this area, and had built up a large and lucrative business, shipping plants as far away as Canada. He was the first in this section of the country to ship plants by air. Besides his wife he is survived by three sons, James Paul Councill, Jr., and Philip Andrews Councill, both of Franklin, and Edward Winslow Councill of Richmond; three grandchildren, James Paul Councill, 3rd, Christopher Marbel Councill and Dianne Lynn Councill; one sister Mrs. Rochelle J. Rountree; and one brother, Robert J. Councill.
