All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ WILLIAM EDWARD COUNCILL William Edward Councill of the Franklin community died at Lakeview Hospital where he died Sunday. Mr. Councill was born, reared and had spent practically all of his life on the farm where he lived at the time of his death. He was the son of the late Benjamin and Susan Gardner Councill, and had been a successful farmer, a good citizen and a man of many commendable traits of character. He had been for many years a member of Joyner’s Christian Church of this community. He is survived by his widow, who was Miss Rosa Belle Cobb, and by their six children: Tommie, Herbert G. and Robert C. Councill of Franklin; Mrs. D.F. Morris of Norfolk, Mrs. H.T. Sheffield of Waverly and Mrs. A.D. Sheffield of Suffolk, and by 16 grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Joshua Councill of Sedley, and a sister, Mrs. Henry Eley of the Sycamore community, besides a large family connection and many friends. Funeral services were conducted from his late residence Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock by the Rev. Jos. W. Fix, pastor of the Franklin Christian Church, assisted by Dr. W.W. Staley and Rev. H.S. Hardcastle of Suffolk and Dr. Geo. H. Spooner of the Methodist Church here. There were special musical numbers by the choir of the Christian Church, and interment was made in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The body bearers were: J.C. Councill, D.C. Gillette, Robert Gardner, R.J. Rountree, Herman Howell, John Eley, Presley Eley and J.W. Beale. There was an unusually large attendance of friends and the floral tributes were profuse and beautiful. A number of leading business men and citizens of the town and community acted as honorary bearers. William Edward COUNCILL, of Franklin, farmer, b.
