All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ LOUISA POPE DARDEN CHANNING Louisa Pope Channing, 76, a well-known resident of Newsoms, died in a Portsmouth hospital Wednesday morning, November 22, after an illness of several months’ duration. She was the widow of the late Joseph Henry Channing of Newsoms, and the daughter of the late Rufus E. and Martha Rebecca Barham Darden of Southampton County. She was a member of the Newsoms Baptist Church, in which she served faithfully for many years. Surviving her are a sister, Mrs. G.C. Picot of Como, N.C., and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Newsoms Baptist Church on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, with Rev. R.L. Chadwick officiating. Interment was in the Newsoms cemetery.
