Sidney Cowies and the Rev. Edwin C. Thorton Jr. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were T.J. Blythe Jr., Ocie Beale, John Mumford Jr., A.S. Bradshaw, D.S. Edwards Jr., and Robert Lowe. A native of Southampton County, he was a son of Miles L. and Mrs. Elizabeth Joyner Carr and the husband of Mrs. Bertie Corbitt Carr. He was a 60 year member of Black Creek Baptist Church of which he was a trustee and deacon and a former Sunday school superintendent. He was a member of Black Creek-Burdette Ruritan Club and a veteran of World War I. Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Arthur C. Carr, Jr., Miles L. Carr and Hugh Carr of Franklin; eight grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren.
