Carr of this community, who was stricken with paralysis just after coming out of Sunday school at the Baptist church Sunday morning. He was carried to his home in an unconscious condition and passed away at 4 o’clock the same afternoon without ever regaining consciousness. Garland Carr was a young man of exemplary habits and was only 18 years old although his unusual physical development made him a man of mature appearance and habits. He was a consistent member of the Franklin Baptist Church and a constant attendant upon all of its services. He was employed by the Lytton Manufacturing Corporation of this town, which was closed during his funeral was a mark of respect to his memory. His bereaved parents have the universal sympathy of our townspeople in the terrible blow which had fallen upon their home, taking away the youngest member of the family with a suddenness which reminds us all of the uncertainty of human life. He is survived by his father and mother; two brothers, E. Roy Carr of Roanoke, Va., and John N. Carr of Newport News; and one sister Mrs. R.C. Branch of this town. The funeral services were conducted from the Franklin Baptist Church Monday afternoon at 3 o’clock by Rev. M.A. MacLean, pastor of the deceased, in the presence of a large assembly of sorrowing friends. Interment followed in Poplar Spring cemetery, the active pallbearers being Claude Beale, L.M Barrett, Geo.O. Watkins, A.G. Beaman, G.E. Johnson, E.K. Brinkley, Samuel B. Cutchins and Richmond Peters; honorary, Willard Cooper, Linwood Cooper, Emmett Griffin, Reuben Edwards, Geon Beale, Ezra Gray, Floyd Edwards, Sam Carrington, Richard Lawrence, J.G. Vann and R.C. Campbell.
