Carr, farmer and carpenter of the Black Creek community, died at his home Tuesday, October 17, aged 76. Mr. Carr was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Carr of Southampton County. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Paul Carr and Mrs. W.R. Fowler of Zuni and Mrs. R.H. Britt of Portsmouth; two sons, B.R. Carr of Franklin and R.C. Carr of Ivor; a sister, Mrs. Bob Corbitt of Black Creek; four brothers, W.L. Carr of Waverly, J.H. Carr of Newport News, J.B. Carr of Norfolk and R.B. Carr of Suffolk; 17 grandchildren and six great- grandchildren. Services were conducted at Black Creek Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon, October 18, at 3 o’clock by two nephews of the deceased, the Rev. W.H. Corbitt of Holland and the Rev. R.H. Corbitt of Colosse, assisted by the Rev. W.B. Watson, pastor of the Black Creek Church, and the Rev. Geo. Kissinger, III, of Ivor. The deceased held membership at Black Creek during early life, later transferring to Tucker Swamp Baptist Church. The choir form Tucker Swamp Church sang "Sometime We’ll Understand" and "Abide With Me." Mrs. Fenton Carr singing "Tomorrow." Burial took place in the Black Creek Church cemetery, the casket being covered with a pall of lilies and red rose buds. Pallbearers were Ben Eley, Philip Worrell, Percy Bradshaw, W.C. Andrews, Roger Britt, Bob Doles, Hurley Clark and H.A. Lankford.
