A native of Isle of Wight County, he was the husband of Mrs. Shelly Gay Carr and a son of James E. and Mrs. Garris Daughtrey Carr. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church and Walters Woodmen of the World Lodge 186. He was a World War I veteran. Besides his widow, surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Jimmie L. Bradshaw of Virginia Beach and Mrs. Martha Bibb of Charlottesville; four sisters, Mrs. Dosia Darden of Carrsville, Mrs. Sarah Turner of Goldsboro, N.C., and Mrs. Lillian Harrell and Mrs. Clara Bracey of Norfolk; four brothers, Spencer L. Carr of Norfolk, R. Lee Carr of Suffolk, Dallas Carr of Virginia Beach and John E. Carr of Carrsville; and four grandchildren. A funeral service was conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home by the Rev. Thomas D. Sutton of Mt. Carmel Christian Church and the Rev. Donald E. Trump of Colosse Baptist Church. Burial was in Southampton Memorial Park Cemetery, Franklin. Pallbearers were Clayton Darden, Raymond Darden, Dallas Carr, Jr., David Bracey, Leonard Rose, Stanley Lowe, Jasper Carr and Fenton Beale.
