FRANKLIN - A funeral service for Sion Alford (S.A.) Carr Jr., 69, was held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Franklin Baptist Church by the Rev. Ira D. Hudgins. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery with Wright Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were: Jack Camp, William Skipworth, Joe Stewart, Francis Clark, Felton Johnson, Jack Forrer, L.E. Edwards, Tom Coggsdale, L.R. (Boss) Pittman and Delton Eure and M.W. Williams. Carr died Thursday in a hospital. A native of Youngstown, Fla., he was a former resident of Wallace, N.C. He attended the University of North Carolina and had retired as manager of lumber operations at Franklin Building Products division of Union Camp Corporation. Carr was a member and former deacon of Franklin Baptist Church and was a member of its Bruner Bible Class. He was a member of Forks of the River Ruritan Club and Franklin Lions Club and its board of directors. He was a member of the past master of Franklin Masonic Lodge 151 and was elected Boss of the Year in 1971 by the Franklin Jaycees. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Boone Carr; two daughters, Judy C. McLemore and Ann C. Stephens, and a son, Sion A. Carr III, all of Franklin; three sisters, Mrs. S.S. Fountain of Jacksonville, Fla. Mrs. A.L. Hux of Roanoke Rapids, N.C. and Mrs. Raymond Powell of Hampton; and four grandchildren. Sion Alford "S.A."
