Cross of this town died at Lakeview Hospital, Suffolk, December 28, in his forty-seventh year after a brief illness. He was a native of Nansemond county but had made his home in Franklin for a number of years and for the past fifteen years had been foreman at the Franklin Peanut Company, a position which he had held most acceptably to his employers and everyone with whom he came in contact. He was a consistent and useful member of the Franklin Christian Church and was esteemed by our townspeople for his upright life and integrity in his dealings with all men. He is survived by his widow, who was Miss Lucy Saunders of Nansemond county; one son, W.J. Cross, Jr.; an adopted daughter, Isaquella Cross; two brothers, Cleopas Cross, of Portsmouth and John Cross, of Nansemond county; two sisters, Mrs. J.D. Haslette and Mrs. Wilbur Rountree of Holland; two half-brothers, David Milteer of Suffolk and Charles Milteer of Gates county, N.C. The body was brought to Franklin for burial and services were held from the Franklin Christian Church by Dr. C.H. Rowland, pastor of the deceased, last Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Interment followed in Poplar Spring Cemetery and the pallbearers were Roger I. Beale, J.C. Beale, H.W. Beale, J.I. Beale, Jr., Wesley H. Beale, H.L. Westbrook, G.E. Johnson and R.E. Barrett.
