He was a native of Southampton County. Mr. Cross was a foreman with the Virginia Department of Highways. He was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church. He was a former merchant marine. Survivors include his wife, Juanita Brown Cross; three daughters, Connie C. Barrow and Carol C. Clary, both of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and Bonnie C. Kara of St. Louis; a son, William G. "Billy" Cross Jr. of Houston; a stepdaughter, Teresa A. Harrison of Fayettevillle, N.C.; four stepsons, Cecil L. Andrews of Voldosta, Ga., T. Ritchie Andrews of Richmond, Joseph R. Andrews of Palinview, Ark., and G. Dale Andrews of Suffolk; and eight grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Wright Funeral Home by the Rev. David Adams. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today and at the home of Lillie C. Brown, 600 Walnut St., Franklin.
