All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ LONNIE CRUTCHFIELD Ivor - Lonnie Lee Crutchfield, 56, died Jan. 27, 1988, in Chesapeake General Hospital. A native of Henderson, N.C., he was the son of the late Rev. Henry E. and Agnes Whitt Crutchfield. He was a member of Wakefield Congregational Christian Church. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Crutchfield was a 1948 graduate of Holland High School, and attended Elon College from 1948 to 1951. He went to Thomas Nelson community College from 1972 to 1973. In 1962, he graduated from the 69th session of the FBI National Academy. From 1955 to 1971, he was a police officer in Suffolk, starting as patrolman and rising to the rank of captain. From 1971 to 1974, he was an officer in Williamsburg, serving as an inspector and administrative assistant to the chief of police. From 1975 to the present, he was deputy sheriff with the Southampton County Sheriff’s Dept. In 1984, he became sergeant in charge of courtroom security, communications training and general supervision. Fraternal memberships include the Police Association of Virginia; the Virginia Sheriff’s Association; a charter member of the Franklin - Southampton County Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 56; past president in 1973 of the Tidewater Chapter of the Virginia State Crime Clinic; and an active member of the FBI Academy Graduate Association of Virginia. Survivors two daughters, Catherine Ann Crutchfield of Chesapeake and Paulette A. Jastrebsky; three sisters, Mary C. Hamilton of Holland Station, Suffolk, Delia C. Mitchell of Virginia Beach, and Lois C. Smith of Dearborne, Mich. The funeral will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, by the Rev. Larry Cribb. Burial will be in the Holland Cemetery.
