John W. Williams. Burial was in Newsoms Cemetery. Pallbearers were Roy Spiers, Thomas Coggsdale, James Coggsdale, James H. Porter, Walter C. Scarbrough, and Fred Worrell. Mrs. Carter, 74, died Saturday night in Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin. A native of Southampton County, she was the widow of Rupert Guy Carter and a daughter of William D. and Mrs. Rosa Kitchen Barnes. She was a member of Newsoms Baptist Church. Surviving are a son, Rupert Guy Carter Jr. of Wakefield; a sister, Mrs. Mary Ethel Yelverton of Portsmouth; a brother, Southgate L. Barnes of Kansas City, Mo.; and two grandchildren.
