John David Carter, Jr., 82, of 711 Walnut St., Franklin, died Sunday afternoon in his home. A native of Hertford County, N.C., he was a son of John David Carter Sr. and Mrs. Delia Whitley Carter and the husband of the late Mrs. Dona Britt Carter. He was a member of High Street Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Hugh C. Gibson of Franklin; two sisters, Mrs. Collin Beale of Colonial Heights and Mrs. Delia McKinney of Peteresburg; and a brother, L.M. Carter of Handsoms. Funeral service was held Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in the chapel of W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert E. Fridley. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers were G.E. Whitley, Everett B. Beale, Jimmy Jones, Joe Whitley, William Bradshaw and J.R. Bracey.
