BEALE CARTER Mrs. Maria Beale Carter, wife of the late Joseph T. Carter died suddenly at her home near Sunbeam January 15, at the age of 64. Mrs. Carter was the daughter of the late Etheldred and Sallie Barnes Beale of this county. Since the age of 11 she had been a faithful member of Mt. Horeb Methodist Church where for years she was a regular attendant. Having recently lost her eldest sons, Joe Fletcher, she is survived by five daughters: Mrs. W.H. Ansell of Portsmouth, Mrs. P.S. Worrell of Newsoms, Mrs. B.L. O’Berry and Mrs. V.S. Culpeper of Suffolk and Mrs. H.J. Hancock of Sedley; five sons, E. Beale Carter of Newsoms, Allen Carter of Cumberland, Clyde H. Carter of Suffolk and Hugh and Julian Carter of Sunbeam; three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Edwards of Richmond, Mrs. Annice O’berry of Newsoms and Mrs. A.P. Porter of Handsom; three brothers, George H. Beale of Franklin, S.R. Beale and H.P. Beale of Courtland, and by 18 grandchildren. The funeral services were conducted from her late home by her Pastor, Rev. R.H. Marks, assisted by Rev. L.E. Dailey of Newsoms Baptist Church. The large number of sorrowing friends who attended these last rites and the many beautiful floral offerings attested to the love and esteem in which she was held. The hymns sung include her favorite. "The Haven of Rest," "Rock of Ages" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus." The body bearers were her five sons, E.Beale, Allen Hugh, Clyde and Julian Carter, William Carter, Sheldon Worrell and Howard Hancock. The honorary pallbearers were: L.L. Bryant, C.F. Whitfield, Dave Ricks, J.H. Stephenson, W.E. Griffin, A.P. Porter, R.N. Beale and Bill O’berry. Maria Evelyn (BEALE; Mrs. Joseph T.)
