RUPERT GUY CARTER 

   NEWSOMS - Funeral services for Rupert Guy Carter Sr., 70, who died Friday, 
Jan. 18, in Raiford Memorial Hospital, were conducted Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in 
Newsoms cemetery by Rev. Louis F. Smith of Moyock, (N.C.) Baptist Church.  Mr. 
Carter had been ill for several months.

   A native of Hertford County, N.C., he spent most of his life in the Newsoms 
area.  He was a son of John and Mrs. Delia Whitley Carter.

   He was a World War I veteran, a retired farmer and store clerk, and a 
member of World I Barracks, Franklin.

   Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Florie Barnes Carter of Newsoms; a son, R. 
Guy Carter, Jr. of Weldon, N.C.; two brothers, John D. Carter of Franklin and 
Lonnie M. Carter of Handsom; two sisters, Mrs. D.H. McKenney of Petersburg and 
Mrs. Collin Beale of Colonial Heights, and two grandchildren.
