Caroon, Sr., 69, resident of Franklin for the past several years and a native of Southampton County, died Thursday afternoon, June 16, at the Veterans Hospital, Kecoughtan, after a long period of declining health. During the Spanish-American War Mr. Caroon served in the United States Navy. He was the son of the late Peleg and Mary Caroon of this county. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Mattie Cutchin Caroon; six sons, Herman, Thomas M., Jr. and Edward, all of Franklin, Roy Caroon of Lawrenceville, William Caroon of Norfolk, and Norman Caroon of Spokane, Wash.; three daughters, Mrs. Harry Butler, Jr., of Franklin, Mrs. W.S. Smith of Suffolk, and Miss Eleanor Louise Caroon of Franklin; six grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. Funeral services for Mr. Caroon were conducted at the grave in the Courtland cemetery Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by Rev. R.D. Stephenson and Rev. Randolph Gregory. The active pallbearers were Luther Barden, Clyde Cutchin, W.S. Smith, Harry Butler, Jr., J.C. Joyner and Harvey Cutchin. "Tommi" Thomas M.
