He was the son of the late Alexander and Mrs. Cora Lee Bailey Cornwell of Southampton County. He was a lifelong resident of Southampton County and a member of Barretts Christian Church and St. Paul’s Masonic Lodge 481 of Philadelphia. He served in the Navy in World War II. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Ercelle William Cornwell; a brother, Ashley Cornwell of Norfolk; and a sister, Mrs. Lydia Pond of Richmond. A funeral service was held in his home Friday at 2:30 p.m. by Rev. Joseph L. McTeer, pastor of Millfield Baptist Church; and the Rev. C.E. Gerringer of Sedley. Burial was in Rollings family cemetery.
