DAVIS COURTLAND - Mrs. Anna Gillette Davis, 79, died Wednesday morning in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Paige Watkinson after a short illness. She was the widow of Ezra W. Davis and a daughter of Lewis and Mrs. Rebecca Cobb Gillette of Southampton County. She was a member of Courtland Methodist Church and Southampton Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. Besides Mrs. Watkinson, surviving are four other daughters, Mrs. Jane D. Colglazier of Bel Air, Md., Mrs. Anna D. Thweatt Victoria and Mrs. Betty D. Joyner of Courtland; three sons, Garland H. Davis and E. William Davis of Courtland and Gilbert Davis of Portsmouth; a sister, Mrs. Lucille Gillette of Courtland; a brother T.A. Gillette of Franklin; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The body was taken to W.J.M. Holland & Sons Funeral Home, Franklin. A funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m. in Courtland Methodist Church by the Rev. Byron S. Hallstead. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland. Pallbearers were the three sons, Garland, William and Gillette Davis and the fives sons-in-law, Paige Watkinson, Monroe Joyner, T.P. Gilbert, W.W. Colglazier and Jas. W. Thweatt.
