All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ EMMETT RALPH DAVIS Emmett Ralph Davis, 51, farmer of the Courtland community, died suddenly at his home Sunday morning at five o'clock. Mr. Davis was the son of the late Leonidas W. and Josephine Newton Davis of Southampton County. He was a member of the Courtland Methodist Church and President of the Davis Hunt Club. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Florrie Vick Davis, and a son, Russell Giles Davis; three brothers, J. Benn Davis and Frank L. Davis of Courtland and Paul B. Davis of Sebrell; two sisters, Mrs. Ida D. Williams and Mrs. Annie D. Whitfield of Courtland; and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral services were held at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the residence near Courtland, with burial in the Courtland cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. Percy D. White, pastor of the Courtland Methodist Church, assisted by Rev. J.E. Brooks of Portsmouth, and G.C. Picot of the Camp P.D. Hunt Club. Active pallbearers were Garland Davis, Beaman Davis, Franklin Davis, Lewis Davis, Leroy Magette, C.G. Ridley, Lewis Duke, and George Vick, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were friends of the family.
