Davis, Jr. 37, postmaster at Courtland, died in the McGuire Veterans Hospital, Richmond, on Friday June 1, after an illness of several months. A Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Davis was the husband of Mrs. Adelle Barkley Davis and son of Frank L. and Mrs. Maude Barber Davis, all of Courtland. Mr. Davis was well-known and popular throughout the county. He was a lifelong member of the Courtland Methodist Church and a member and past president of its Men's Bible Class. After graduating from Courtland High School he attended the Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He was a member of the American Legion and of the Courtland Junior Chamber of Commerce and was Past Master of Courtland Lodge No. 85, A.F.& A.M. Besides his wife and parents he is survived by two children, Veronica Louise and Frank L. Davis, 3rd; and four sisters, Mrs. Paul J. Bankes and Mrs. W.D. Williams, Jr. of Richmond, Mrs. W.F. Kollinger of Easton, Md., and Mrs. J.D. Woodard Jr. of Courtland. Funeral services for Mr. Davis were conducted at the residence of his parents on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock by Rev. Otis L. Gilliam, pastor of the Courtland Methodist Church, assisted by Rev. C.G. Barkley of Yorktown, a cousin of the widow, and Rev. L.M. Kanipe, pastor of the Courtland Baptist Church. Masonic rites were held at the graveside in Courtland Cemetery. Active pallbearers were L.A. Clements, Beamon Davis, E.W. Davis, H.H. Edwards, R.W. McLemore, Irving Nixon, E.P. Westbrook, Jr., and B.A. Williams, Jr. Friends of the family acted as honorary pallbearers.
