All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ FRANKLIN LEONIDAS DAVIS A funeral service for Franklin Leonidas Davis, 84, of Courtland, was held Friday at 3 p.m. in Riverside Cemetery by the Rev. Bobby T. Tyson. Pallbearers were his grandsons J.P. Bankes, F. Lon Davis III, Davis B. Collinger, Richard F. Collinger, J. Dudley Woodard III, and J. Douglas Williams III. A native of Southampton County, he lived in the Courtland area all of his life. He was the husband of Mrs. Maude Barber David and a son of Leonidas W. and Mrs. Josephine Newton Davis. He was a retired farmer and rural mail carrier. He was a member of Courtland United Methodist Church and served on its Board of Stewards more than 40 years. He was a member of Courtland Masonic Lodge 85, a past district deputy grand marshal of the 32nd Masonic District, and a charter member of Courtland Ruritan Club. Besides his widow, surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Doris D. Bankes of Radnor, Pa., Mrs. Barber D. Williams of Richmond, Mrs. Nette Woodard of Courtland, and Mrs. Alice Kollinger of Easton, Md.; a sister, Mrs. Ida D. Williams of Courtland; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the building fund of Courtland United Methodist Church.
