All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JESSE BENJAMIN DAVIS Jesse Benjamin Davis, 76, well-known resident and retired merchant of Courtland, died at his home Saturday morning, July 23, of a heart attack. The deceased was the husband of Mrs. Bessie Gillette Davis of Courtland and son of the late Leonidas W. and Josephine Newton Davis of this county. He was a member of the Courtland Methodist Church. In addition to his wife he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ethel Davis Marks and Mrs. Bessie Davis Rodgers of Courtland, and Mrs. Jessie Davis Marks of Sebrell; one sons, Lewis W. Davis of Courtland; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Annie D. Whitfield and Mrs. Ida D. Williams, both of Courtland; two brothers, Franklin L. and Paul B. Davis of Courtland; and several nephews and nieces. Funeral rites for Mr. Davis were held at the residence Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock with interment in Riverside Cemetery. The pallbearers were J.E. Whitfield, S.T. Whitfield, Fred Barker, Wallace Cole, T.P. Gilbert, Herbert Yates, T.H. Birdsong, Jr. and E.P.
