LUCY ANNE SAUNDERS DAVIS

   On Friday afternoon, January 13, at 3:30 o’clock, Mrs. Lucy A. Davis passed 
away at the home of her niece, Mrs. L.M. Vaughan, near Capron.  She had come 
to visit her niece last fall but was taken ill in November and remained so 
until death.  Although her sufferings were great, she bore them with patience 
and said she was ready and willing to go at any time and was just waiting for 
His beckoning call.

   She was in her seventy-second year, having spent the most of her life in 
Southampton County.  At an early age she united with Antioch Baptist Church, 
Sussex County, and there proved a faithful and consistent member until death.

   The funeral services were conducted by Rev. W.H. Riddick Sunday afternoon 
at 2:30 o’clock and interment was made in the family burying ground on the 
W.W. Cole farm near Courtland.

   The active pallbearers were: H.C. Bryant, Marvin Barnes, W.J. Cole, Ben 
Lamb, Leslie Thompson and Thomas Vaughan.

   She leaves to mourn their loss one daughter, Mrs. I.G. Whitehead, and two 
sons, P.A. Davis of Courtland and W.E. Davis of Dolphin, Va., besides a host 
of relatives and friends.  We extend to the bereaved family our heartfelt 
sympathy in their dark hour.
