Davis, aged 77 years, widow of the late Samuel W. Davis, died Monday, February 17 in the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.P. Johnson of Ivor. She was born Dec. 7, 1852, in this county, and spent most of her married life in the Black Creek community, moving to Suffolk about ten years ago and after her husband’s death coming to Ivor to live with her daughter. She was active until just one week before death when she was stricken with bronchial pneumonia. She was a consistent member of Johnson’s Grove Christian Church. She is survived by five daughters, Miss Gypsy L. Davis of Suffolk, Mrs. W.P. Johnson of Ivor, Mrs. Irene A. Barclay of Richmond, Miss Maude C. Davis of Norfolk and Mrs. Jesse F. McClenny of Franklin; two grandchildren, Davis McClenny of Franklin and Henry Watkins Johnson of Ivor; two sisters, Mrs. E.G. Joyner and Miss Pink Williams of Courtland, and two brothers, W.L. Williams of Sedley and C.T. Williams of Waverly, and many nieces and nephews. The burial services were held Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 3 p.m. in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin, Conducted by Rev. C.E. Gerringer, pastor of Ivor Christian Church. The body bearers were: J.T. Faircloth, L.T. Saunders, C.A. Holt, T.O. Camp, F.T. Joyner, J.W. McDearmon, J. Dudley Wills and G.C. Niblett, and the honorary pallbearers were: Dr. B.F. Babb, R.E. Stewart, B.H. Lane, B.B. Andrews, E.N. Johnson, J.K. Wade, T.A. Saunders and W.C. Rawls. Martha Caroline (WILLIAMS; Mrs. Samuel W.)
