IVOR - A funeral service for Melvin (Mel) Davis, Jr., 21*, of Ivor was held Monday at 2:30 P.M. in Purviance Funeral Chapel, Wakefield, by the Rev. Brian L. Tiffany and the Rev. J.L. McTerr. Burial was in Ivor Cemetery. Pallbearers were Barry Pittman, Ted Pittman, Paul Pursell, John Shoemaker, Wesley Joyner, Larry Beale and Bobby Brooks. A native of Southampton County, he was a son of Melvin L. and Mrs. Mabel Pittman Davis of Ivor. He was a member of Ivor Baptist Church, Woodmen of the World, and Ivor Community Hunt Club. He worked for the Virginia State Highway Department. Besides his parents, surviving are two brothers, Wayne E. Davis of Hampton and Ralph O. Davis of Ivor; and paternal grandmother, Mrs. Bessie L. Davis of Adams Basin, N.Y.
