MORTUARY 

JAMES PHILIP DUKE 

  Funeral services for James Philip Duke were held Sunday afternoon at 3 
o'clock at the Liberty Spring Christian church, conducted by Dr. I.W. Johnson, 
the Rev. R.E. Brittle and Dr. John G. Truitt. 

  Members of the church choir, accompanied by Mrs. I.W. Johnson, sang the 
hymns, "Sometime We'll Understand," "Does Jesus Care" and "The Old Rugged 
Cross." 

  There were many handsome floral tributes and a pall of Ascension lilies and 
fern covered the casket. 

  Active pallbearers were C.B. Godwin, Jr., G.A. Harris, P.G. Cox, H.H. 
Powell, Joel Harrell, Sr., Wallace Brinkley, G.O. O'Berry, E.B. Rawles. 
Friends of the family were honorary pallbearers. 

  Burial was in the church cemetery.

Her parents, Parker & Elizabeth "Bettie" (RAWLS) DUKE, were moved from a 
   family cemetery on Hosier Rd. to Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk.

His father (1842 - 1896) was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private 
   in Co. I, 61st VA Infantry.
