All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ PUTNAM OWEN DUCK Putnam Owen Duck, 74, a prominent merchant and farmer of Nansemond County, died at 8:45 Tuesday night, April 6, at his home near South Quay after an illness of some months. A life-long resident of Nansemond County and a merchant in the South Quay neighborhood for more than half a century, Mr. Duck was the son of the late J.T. and Victoria Jones Duck. He was the husband of Mrs. Maggie Holland Duck, who survives him. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, P.O. Duck, Jr., of Sedley; four daughters, Mrs. N.W. Wills of Sedley, Mrs. Hugh Gwaltney of Windsor, and Misses Nannie V. Duck and Margaret E. Duck of Franklin; four grandchildren, Wesley Wills and Judith and Patricia Duck of Sedley and Mac Gwaltney of Windsor; two brothers, G.F. Duck and J.T. Duck, Jr., both of Franklin; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Duck were held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the residence, with Rev. W.B. Watson, pastor of the South Quay Baptist Church, of which the deceased was a member, and Rev. R. D. Stephenson officiating. Interment was in Poplar Spring Cemetery, the active pallbearers being N.T. Duck, G.H. Duck, Clarence Duck, J.D. Duck, Jimmie Duck and Glaspa Duck.
