He was the husband of Mrs. Bernice Ricks Duke and a son of Henry Littleton and Mrs. Maggie Porter Duke. He was a member of Newsoms Methodist Church and was an Army veteran of World War I. Surviving, besides his widow, are a son, Robert Lee Duke, Jr. of Newsoms, and a foster sister, Mrs. Fannie Vick Burner of Portsmouth. A funeral service was conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home, Franklin, by the Rev. Allen Lawrence of Newsoms Baptist Church. Burial was in Newsoms Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gilbert Francis, Fred Worrell, Guy Pope Rountree, Howard Ellis, Julian Carter, James C. Vick, George Cook, David Tom Drake, L.L. Thorp and John Q. Worrell.
