Daughtrey on April 1, the South Quay community loses one of its very best citizens and one who will be greatly missed. He was a kind neighbor, ever ready to help those in distress or in need of assistance. He was 69 years of age and leaves to mourn their loss three sons, Robt. L., B.W. and O.J. Daughtrey; three daughters, Mrs. James Carr, Mrs. J.L. Cotton, and Mrs. Al Bennett; two brothers, Abram T. and Matthew W. Daughtrey and two sisters, Mrs. Caroline Doughtie and Mrs. Gus Winborne. He was a consistent and useful member of South Quay Baptist Church and his body was laid to rest in the church cemetery near the house of worship he had loved so well. The active pallbearers were his nephews, Walter, Willie, Ocie, Jasper, Charlie and Alvah Daughtrey, Fran Butler and Ellie Stephenson; honorary, Messrs. Allen and Eley Daughtrey, D.L. Butler, John Saunders, J.A. Rawls, E.J. Howell, P.A. Jones and B.M. Cutchin. The funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. C.G. Lowe, at the church, and an unusually large crowd was in attendance to pay him respect. "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord."
