She was a native of Nansemond county, the daughter of the late Randolph and Christine Rawls, and had been a faithful, consistent and valued member of Holy Neck Christian Church since early childhood. She was married on March 6, 1889, to Allen Daughtrey, an honored citizen of Nansemond and later of this town, who died November 20, 1919. She is survived by one son, Braxton R. Daughtrey, and by five step-children, all of whom loved her and regarded her even as their own mother; Mrs. Eva L. Daughtrey and Mrs. J.D. Johnson of Isle of Wight, Miss Lydia Daughtrey, W.A. Daughtrey and J.O.H. Daughtrey of Franklin; by three brothers, Eugene Rawls of Franklin, D.P. Rawls of Portsmouth and B.B. Rawls of Clearwater, Fla., and by one sister, Mrs. Mary E. Bell of Blackstone, Va., besides many nieces and nephews and a wide circle of relatives and friends. She had lived the ideal Christian life, true in all of its relations to her Master whom she served the church she loved and to the members of the home circle, to neighbors and friends. The immediate cause of her death was heart trouble from which she had suffered for some time, bearing her afflictions with resignation and without complaint. The funeral services will be conducted from her late residence this (Friday) morning at 11:30 o’clock by Dr. C.H. Rowland of the Franklin Christian Church, assisted by Rev. W.M. Jay, pastor of the Holy Neck Christian Church, and interment will follow in Poplar Spring Cemetery here. The pallbearers will be her sons and grandsons, B.R. W.A. and J.O.H. Daughtrey; Edward D. Daughtrey, R.A. Johnson, C.N. Johnson and A.B. Daughtrey and E.V. Stephenson.
