Daughtrey Funeral Tomorrow Funeral services for William Allen Daughtrey, 67, who died unexpectedly yesterday morning at 8 o'clock at the Norfolk General Hospital, will he held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Suffolk Christian Church with the pastor, the Rev. Duane Vore, officiating. Burial will follow in the Franklin Cemetery. He was visiting his wife, who is convalescing at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Charles Bassham, in Norfolk, when he was taken sick and was rushed to the hospital. A native of Franklin and a well known insurance man, he has wide family connections in this area. He had engaged in several lines of business but spent most of his life in the insurance business, having been employed for the last 10 years by the Universal Life Insurance Company. Reared in Franklin, he operated a grocery store and was employed by the Camp Manufacturing Company. He moved to Suffolk in the early 1930's and worked for the People's Life Insurance Company and later the Universal. In addition he was employed as bookkeeper for the Brewer Jewelry Company. Active in Church Work The son of the late Allen and Elizabeth Norfleet Daughtrey, he was active in the affairs of the Suffolk Christian Church, where he was chairman of its Board of Deacons and a member of the Baraca Sunday School Class. A very religious man, he spent most Sundays visiting sick members of the church and his friends. The body now rests at the Baker Funeral Home but will be taken to the church tomorrow afternoon at 1 o'clock to lie in state until the fueeral hour. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Amo Eure Daughtrey; two daughters, Mrs. Charles Bassham, and Mrs. Nancy D. Penner, both of Norfolk; two brothers, J.O.H. and Braxton H. Daughtrey of Franklin; a sister, Lydia Daughtrey of Franklin; a stepson [sic; step-grandson], Lewis Deane Bassham; three grandchildren, Gerald Allen, Richard and Nancy Carole Bassham, all of Norfolk. ****************************************************************************** WILLIAM ALLEN DAUGHTREY William Allen Daughtrey, 67, a well-known Suffolk insurance man, died unexpectedly at 8 o'clock Sunday morning, February 26, at Norfolk General Hospital. He was a son of the late Allen Daughtrey and Elizabeth Norfleet Daughtrey. A native of Nansemond County, Mr. Daughtrey had wide family connections throughout this area. Coming to Franklin at the age of 21, he was employed by the Camp Manufacturing Company and also operated a grocery business for several years. After moving to Suffolk in the early 1930's, he worked first for the People's Life Insurance Company, and for the past 10 years he had been connected with Universal Life. In addition, he worked for some time as bookkeeper for the Brewer Jewelry Company there. Mr. Daughtrey was prominent in the activities of the Suffolk Christian Church, being chairman of its board of deacons and a member of the Baraca Sunday school class. Keenly interested in the church, he spent most of his Sundays for several years visiting sick members of the congregation. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Amo Eure Daughtrey; two daughters, Mrs. Charles Bassham and Mrs. Nancy D. Penner of Norfolk; a sister, Miss Lydia Daughtrey of Franklin; two brothers, J.O.H. Daughtrey and Braxton R. Daughtrey, of Franklin; three grandchildren, Gerald Allen and Richard Hardin Bassham and Nancy Carole Bassham of Norfolk; and a step-grandson, Lewis Deane Bassham. Funeral services for Mr. Daughtrey were conducted at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Suffolk Christian Church by the pastor, Rev. Duane N. Vore. Burial was in the family plot in Poplar Spring Cemetery. The pall was of Easter lilies, white carnations, hyacinths and red roses. Pallbearers were Herbert West, Henry C. Murden, R.L. Bailey, H.H. Young, J.L. Eley, H.E. Byrd, James L. Byrd and J.H. Crocker. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Suffolk Christian Church and members of the board of finance of the church.
