Dickens, 80, a well-known resident of the Capron community, died at her home on Sunday afternoon, February 18, after a brief illness. She was the widow of the late Joseph Reid Dickens, and the daughter of the late William R. and Elizabeth Pope Bryant of this county. She was a member of the Whitehead Methodist Church, in which she had served faithfully from childhood. Surviving her are two daughters, Misses Bessie and Helen Dickens, of Capron; one son, Julian J. Dickens of Williamsburg; and several nephews and nieces. Funeral services were held from the home on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with Rev. L.O. Wright officiating. Burial was in the Capron Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Harwood Babb, Carroll Barnes, Felix Bryant, Walter Futrell, Frank Marks, Hudson Pope, George Prince and Thomas Vaughan. ****************************************************************************** ELIZABETH ELLEN BRYANT DICKENS Mrs. Ellen E. Dickens, widow of the late Joseph Reid Dickens, died at her home on Sunday, February 18, after a short illness. She was the daughter of the late William R. and Elizabeth Pope Bryant. Her two sisters, Mrs. Susan T. Barnes and Mrs. Zulieka S. Worrell, preceded her in death. "Miss Ellie," as she was generally called, lived a long and useful life, being at the time of her death in her 81st year. From childhood she was a member and worker in Old Whitehead Methodist Church, which was destroyed by fire a few years ago. At that time she moved her membership to the Capron Church. She was a faithful mother, a good neighbor, and a friend to everyone. Surviving her are two daughters, Misses Bessie and Helen Dickens of Capron; one son Julian Joseph Dickens, and a granddaughter, Ellen Reid Dickens, of Williamsburg; two nieces, Mrs. Irma Babb and Mrs. Thomas Vaughan of Courtland; three nephews, C.W. and R.T. Barnes of Courtland and W.B. Barnes of Dolphin. Funeral services were held from the home with her pastor, Rev. L.O. Wright, officiating, assisted by Rev. R.H. Marks. Joel Holland sang "In the Sweet Bye and Bye." Burial was in the Capron cemetery. The active pallbearers were Felix Bryant, Frank L. Marks, L. Hudson Pope, C.W. Barnes, Thomas Vaughan, H.F. Babb, W.P.
