All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JULIAN JOSEPH DICKENS Julian Joseph Dickens, 51, son of the late Joseph Reid and Ellen Bryant Dickens of Southampton County, died at his home in Williamsburg on Sunday, August 10. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Brooks Dickens, and a daughter, Ellen Reid Dickens, of Williamsburg, and two sisters, Misses Bessie and Helen Dickens of Capron. In August, 1941, Mr. Dickens moved to Williamsburg, where he has since been employed by the Rockefeller Foundation of Colonial Williamsburg. He was a member of Williamsburg Methodist Church, having transferred his membership from the Whitehead Church on the Capron circuit. He was known for his sterling qualities of uprightness, integrity and winsome friendliness. Funeral services were conducted at his parental home on Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock by his pastor, Rev. James W. Brown of Williamsburg, assisted by Revs. J.T. Cassell and R.H. Marks of Capron. Members of the Capron choir sang "Close To Thee;" and Joel Holland of Murfreesboro sang "Sunrise Tomorrow." Interment was made in the family plot in the Capron cemetery, where the services were concluded by the reading of the poem, "Crossing The Bar," by Rev. R.H. Marks. Active pallbearers were H.F. Babb, C.W. Barnes, D.L. Brooks, J.B. Brooks, Felix Bryant, W.P. Futrell, F.L. Marks, Guy L. Pope, George R. Prince and D.L. Wilkins. Honorary pallbearers were friends from the community and from Williamsburg.
