Robert Murray Doles, Sr., 90, died at noon Sunday, January 26, at the Williamsburg Hospital after a short illness. A native of the Isle of Wight County, he was the husband of the late Annie Bell Doles. He was the oldest living member of Tucker’s Swamp Baptist Church. He was widely known for his ability to play the fiddle. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth M. Bradshaw of Suffolk; two sons, Edgar B. Doles of Norfolk and Robert M. Doles, Jr., of Zuni; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Purviance Funeral Chapel in Wakefield, by the Rev. J.W. Horne, pastor of Tucker’s Swamp Baptist Church, and the Rev. Jeff Monroe, pastor of the Zuni Presbyterian Church. Burial was in the Tucker Swamp church cemetery. Active pallbearers were Hoen Edwards, Harold West, Charles Johnson, Elton Joyner, Sidney Umphlette, Dick Atkins, J.R. Bowden and Herman Bowden.
