He was drafted into the army last spring and sent to Camp Lee. His health broke down immediately after reaching camp. He was taken to the hospital last Friday, his brother, H.K. DeLoatche, having obtained the consent of the military authorities, but he declined rapidly until the end. The funeral took place here Tuesday afternoon and was very impressive. The casket was draped with the American flag which was drawn off as the casket was lowered into the grave and held by two of the pallbearers while the burial service was being read by his pastor, Rev. Porter Hardy, of the M.E. church, assisted by Rev. H.P. Dalton and Rev. A.C. Jordan. The grave was covered with beautiful floral designs. The active pallbearers were: B.F. Britt, W.W. White, Jr., F.H. Drewry, S.J. Myrick, W.T. Edwards, R.C. Knight, Floyd Hines and A.L. Knight; honorary, Dr. J.M. Bland, A.S. Francis, W.W. White, E.H. Grizzard, E.R. Bryant, W. Hugh Powell, Walter H. Britt and C.F. Carlton. Before entering the army Mr. DeLoatche was employed as a traveling salesman by the Southern Bargain House of Richmond and had made a reputation as one of the best salesman traveling out of that city. In early life he professed faith in Christ and joined the Methodist church here and continued as a faithful member until his death. He is survived by one brother, H.K, DeLoatche, and two sisters, Mrs. F.M. Powell and Mrs. Annie Knight all of Boykins. [David Madison DELOATCHE, 4 Aug 1918, Norfolk, age 31, bd.
