All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ELIZABETH ANAH RAWLS DILLON Mrs. Elizabeth Anah Dillon died at her residence on South High Street on Monday, December 4, after several weeks’ illness. She was in her eighty- second year and had lived in Franklin since early infancy, moving here with her parents from Rose Hill Farm, her birthplace in Southampton County. During her long life she had witnessed many of the changes incident to the growth and developed of the town. Mrs. Dillon was the eldest daughter of the late William Everett and Martha Jane Holland Rawls and the wife of the late John Richard Dillon of Franklin. She was a woman of sterling qualities, a kind and helpful neighbor, and a mother unrivaled in conscientious devotion to the development of upright Christian character in her children. She was a faithful member of the American Legion Auxiliary and of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, whose activities always won her ardent support. She leaves one daughter, Miss Bessie F. Dillon of Franklin; two grandchildren, Miss Ann Dillon and W.W. Dillon, Jr., of Franklin; one sister, Mrs. M.R. Thigpen of Franklin, one nephews, S.B. Savage of Alexandria; two nieces, Miss Martha Savage of Franklin and Mrs. Henry Deyerle of Charleston, S.C. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. R.D. Stephenson and interment was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers were Wayland Jones, Percy Vaughan, J.L. Rountree, C.H. Daughtrey, R.L. Wellons, and J.S. Morgan of Suffolk. (Rt. 651), Courtland, but there is no indication that farm is identical with the decedent's birthplace.
