All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JACK HILDRETH DAMPIER FRANKLIN MAN KILLED IN MONDAY ACCIDENT Jack Dampier of 408 Third Ave. Franklin, was killed Monday afternoon in a freak auto accident on the South Quay Road near Peterson’s Nursery. He was apparently thrown from his 1958 station wagon when it left the road and killed when the vehicle rolled over on him in the ditch, pinning him beneath the hood. Employed by the Franklin Concrete Products Corp., he has six daughters. Bystanders rolled the station wagon to extract the body. Minutes later the vehicle caught fire and burned. The Franklin fire department was called to put out the blaze. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. at the Poplar Spring Cemetery. Rev. Ira D. Hudgins and Rev. Don Dunlap conducted the services. He was the husband of Mrs. Yvonne Skipper Dampier and the son of Mrs. Mary Hopkins Dampier, Bishopville, S.C., and the late Robert William Dampier. He was a member of the Bruner Men’s Bible Class of the Franklin Baptist Church. The six daughters are Misses Janice, Patricia, Arlene, Darlene, Jacquelyn and Judy, all of Franklin. Other survivors include three brothers, Harvey of Hartsville, S.C., and Robert and Carl, both of Los Angeles, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Wilbur Campbell of Oates, S.C., and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers Tuesday were James Cobb, Otis Blythe, Robert C. Ray, Alton Vick, Roy Griffin and Robert Rideout.
