All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ WILLIAM OSBORNE DUNBAR William Osborne Dunbar, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Dunbar, was born at Creswell, Terrell County, N.C. on January 10, 1869. He died suddenly in Suffolk on May 15, 1943. In September, 1893, he was married to Miss Maggie Tena Smith, who preceded him in death on October 29, 1942. In 1914 they moved from North Carolina, where they had made their home, to Sedley and had resided here since then except for a few years in Goldsboro, N.C. In their last years they made their home with their daughter, Mrs. J. Maywood Johnson, and Mr. Johnson. Mrs. Dunbar is survived by four sons, Clyde M. Dunbar of Roanoke; Charlie E. Dunbar of Norfolk; Bruce Dunbar of Newark, N.J., and Robert Dunbar of New Bern, N.C.; two daughters, Mrs. J.M. Johnson of Sedley and Mrs. Hurley Lamb of Portsmouth; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, W.H. Dunbar of Creswell, N.C. and one sister, Mrs. Maggie Ainsley of Columbia, N.C., and by several nieces and nephews. Mr. Dunbar was a member of Sedley Baptist Church, a faithful attendant and consistent supporter of its organizations. Services were held from his church Monday afternoon at three o’clock conducted by the Rev. W.B. Watson and the Rev. Percy D. White. The hymns "Sometime We’ll Understand" and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" were sung by choirs of the village churches. The casket was covered with a pall of lilies and white gladioli, there being many lovely flowers. Pallbearers were: S.M. Beaton, S. Halsey, O.J. High, C.B. Owen, T.F. Hundley, J.C. Stephenson, R.L. Wellons and A.L. Rountree. Friends of the family were honorary pallbearers. Interment was made in Rosemont Cemetery.
