All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ERIC MICHAEL DENTLER FRANKLIN - Eric Michael Dentler, who operated Dentler’s Studio for 37 years and who was a well-known portrait photographer for area schools, died Dec. 24 in a hospital. He was 73. In addition to his work at area schools, Mr. Dentler also was a popular photographer with many families and took pictures of a generation of Southampton County residents. Mr. Dentler, a native of the Virgin Islands, moved to Chicago as a young man and attended public schools there. He began working as an apprentice for photographers until he eventually opened his own business. He sold Dentler’s Studio in September. He was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Survivors include his wife, Violet Stewart Dentler; a daughter, Karen B. Dentler of Orange; three sons, Stewart Dentler of Richmond and Michael W. Dentler and Kaj Dentler, both of Franklin; two sisters, Gerda Hammand of Franklin and Beryl D. Helding of California and two grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Monday in Emmanuel Episcopal Church by the Revs. Ben R. Duffey and Robert B. Dentler. Burial was in Poplar Spring Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Franklin Library or to Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Wright Funeral Home handled arrangements.
