Atkinson, Sr., of Franklin. A long time resident of Boykins, she was a member of the Boykins [...*] Mrs. John H.G. Drake of the Delaware community. She is survived by four sisters, Mrs. J.R. Hones of Virginia Beach; Mrs. M.E. Albritton of Arcadia, Fla.; Miss Beulah Drake, and Mrs. W.R. Atkinson, Sr., both of Franklin, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 4:30 on Sunday afternoon at the Purviance Funeral Home in Boykins. The Rev. N.B. Habel and the Rev. Ira D. Hudgins officiated at the service. Mrs. Graham Carlton and Mrs. Leo Weaver, nieces of the deceased, sang, accompanied by Mrs. H.M. Purviance at the organ. Burial was in the Drake family cemetery near Delaware. Pallbearers were Clyde Powell, [...*] J.T. Britt, John [...*], [...*] Holland, Vivian Hines, J.C. Blowe, and W.R. Atkinson, Jr. Helen Riddick DRAKE, of Boykins, d. 29 Jan 1954, at sister's home, Franklin, interred in the DRAKE family cemetery**, near Delaware, Southampton Co., 31 Jan 1954, "The Tidewater News" (Franklin, VA), Feb. 4, 1954 **location not known (Sep 2012) to the Southampton County Historical Society {SCHS} Cemetery Project. *"The Tidewater News" was stored in the attic of the TN building for years before the LVA copied them. There is a line running through the print at the top and middle of many of the papers and it effected many of the obits. I've put elipses for the part that's missing. If it's obvious what's said, I've tried to fill it in.
