Ben B. Ussery. Burial was in Beechwood cemetery, Boykins, with McDowell Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were Bobby Lewis, Randolph Lassiter, James Carter, Raleigh Drake, Carlton Drake, Neil Bolton, Homer Dunlow and Curry Smith. Drake Sr., 54, died Thursday in McGuire Veterans Hospital, Richmond, after a long illness. A native of Southampton County, he was the husband of Mrs. Adrian Bolton Drake and a son of Mrs. Nonie Smith Drake and the late Herbert L. Drake. He was a welder. An Army veteran of World War II, he was in a prisoner of war camp in Germany. He was a member of Boykins Baptist Church and American Legion Post 276. Besides his widow and mother, surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Martha Ann DeBerry of Capron; two sons, Herbert D. Drake of Portsmouth and Hugh Darrow Drake Jr. of Boykins; two brothers, Roger W. Drake and Roy Lee Drake of Franklin; and three grandchildren.
