Allen C. Lawrence. Burial was in Newsoms Cemetery with McDowell Funeral Home of Boykins in charge. Pallbearers were Lona Francis, James Porter, Aubrey Story, Edward O’Berry, Linwood Pope, Julian Carter, Ralph Porter and Russell Drake. The Men’s Bible Class of Newsoms Baptist Church served as honorary pallbearers. Drake, 65, died Thursday in a Norfolk hospital. A native of Southampton County, he was a son of John C. and Mrs. Bettie Vick Drake and the husband of Mrs. Nannie Gray Drake. He was a member and 25 year deacon of Newsoms Baptist Church and a member of the Woodmen of the World. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, James Randolph Drake Sr. of Franklin; six brothers, Claud Drake Sr., Linwood Drake Sr., Spurgeon Drake, Genie Drake and Tommie Drake of Newsoms, and Dock V. Drake of Windsor; and three grandchildren.
