Drake, well-known farmer of Capron, died at the residence of his sister, Mrs. W.T. Whitehorne, 2 N. Stafford Ave., Richmond, on Thursday April 3, at the age of 77. Mr. Drake had been in failing health for some time, but his death was a shock to his many friends on Southampton. A son of the late James T. and Pattie Joyner Drake, he was born in Southampton County and spent most of his life here. He was married to Miss Myrtle Wynn* of Brunswick County, who preceded him to the grave several years ago. Two sisters survive, Mrs. S.T. Whitehorne of Richmond and Mrs. S.W. Joyner, Sr. of Capron. The remains rested at the Joseph W. Bliley Funeral Home until Saturday. Funeral services were held at the grave and interment made in the Capron Cemetery Saturday at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. L.D. Stables, pastor of the Capron Methodist Church, of which Mr. Drake was a member, conducting. He was assisted by the Rev. R.H. Marks. Active pallbearers were W.H. Story, J.E. Fox, H.L. Jarratt, D.B. Bell, L.R. Magee, H.L. Bain, V.S. Pittman, and P.A. Pope. Drake, b. 20 Jun 1884, Va., dt/o W.F. & Sarah (Waller) Winn {both b. Va.}, d. 20 Jun 1920, Sarah Leigh Hospital (24 days' stay) [Norfolk, VA], of Toxemia (Gastric Ulcer contributory) removed 20 Jun 1920, to Lawrenceville, Va. J.H. Holloman, undertaker She is buried in Oakwood Cemetery (Sec. 3, Lot 39), Lawrenceville. A photo of her marker- which gives "Sarah Murtle Winn, Wife of J.T. Drake" - is posted with her Find-a-Grave Memorial, #24531464. Her parents are also buried there. Note that he is not identical with the James Thomas DRAKE who d. 23 Mar 1947, buried in Hollywood Cemetery, Newsoms.
