All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JAMES FRANKLIN DRAKE NEWSOMS - James Franklin Drake, 70, well known retired farmer, died at his home near Newsoms early Friday morning after an illness of many months. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Lennie Louise Drake, and son of Walter Franklin and Mrs. Elma Gray Drake of Southampton County. He was a member of the Barnes Methodist Church, and formerly served as steward and treasurer of the church. Surviving are three daughters, Miss Louise Drake, Mrs. George Whitley, and Mrs. Morris Worrell, all of Newsoms; three grandchildren; two brothers, Leroy R. Drake of Portsmouth and Irvin Drake of Newoms; three sisters, Mrs. Lila N. Ferguson and Mrs. Ronnie Drake, both of Newsoms, and Mrs. Alice Story of Murfreesboro, N.C. ; nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at Barnes Methodist Church Sunday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Homer W. Landis, his pastor. Burial was made in Newsoms Cemetery. Pallbearers were George T. Miles, Sr., Marshall Vick, Julian Carter, Ralph Porter, John Worrell, J.T. Parker, Ray Bunn and Fred Worrell.
