LEWIS EDWARD DRAKE 

   Lewis Edward Drake, infant son of James F. and Lennie L. Drake of Newsoms, 
born April 9, 1921, fell asleep in Jesus July 16, 1922, age 15 months and one 
week.  His little form was laid away in the family plot at Newsoms to await 
the resurrection morn.

   Mysteries have crowded our pathways all through life but the mystery of 
all mysteries is why God should see fit to take our baby so soon in life, 
but, when we consider that in plucking him from the fields of earth and 
transplanting him to God’s eternal garden.  He is safe from the sin and sorrow 
of the world, we bow in humble submission to His will and voice the sentiments 
of Richard Huie as expressed at the death of his child.

"My little one, my fair one, are them thy troubles o’er, 
 And has thy slight and feeble bark arrived at Canaan’s shore? 
 Hast thou at length a haven reached, where thou canst anchor fast, 
 And heed no more the pelting storm, the billow or the blast? 

"My little one, my fair one, thy couch is empty now, 
 Where oft I wiped the dews away, which gathered on thy brow; 
 No more amidst the sleepless night I smooth thy pillow fair 
 ‘Tis smooth indeed, but rest no more thy small pale features there.

"My little one, my fair one, thou canst not come to me, 
 But nearer draws the number hour, when I shall go to thee 
 And thou perchance, with seraph smile, and golden harp in hand, 
 May’st come the first to welcome me, to our Emmanuel’s land."  Father and Mother
