Drake, aged 60, well-known Franklin resident for the past 22 years, died suddenly at his residence on Norfleet Street Wednesday morning. Mr. Drake had suffered from a heart ailment for many years. He was the son of the late George W. and Martha Elizabeth Johnson Drake of Southampton County, and husband of Mrs. Lessie Fowler Drake, who survives him. He was a member of High Street Methodist Church and was employed by G.C. Duck of Franklin until March of this year. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Drake Martin and Miss Winnie May Drake of Franklin; one son, William Randolph Drake of Franklin; three brothers, J.L. and Ezra Drake of Newsoms and George E. Drake of Norfolk; two sisters, Mrs. Cilus Vick of Franklin and Mrs. Martha Whitley of Norfolk and a number of nieces and nephews. Services were conducted this afternoon at 3 o’clock at the residence by his pastor, the Rev. Harry W. Backhus III, and the Rev. B.B. Bland of Portsmouth, a former pastor. Interment was made in Poplar Spring Cemetery with the following pallbearers; M.R. Fowler, J.D. and G.R. Fowler, G.C. Duck, Claude B. Bryant, M.E. Dennis, C.E. Morgan and Herbert Ellis of Portsmouth.
