All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ RIDLEY THOMAS DRAKE Ridley Thomas Drake, who for the past year has been engaged in business in Second Avenue in Franklin where he owned and operated a barber shop, died early Thursday morning at his home on the Franklin-Courtland Road after a brief illness which a few days ago developed into pneumonia. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Courtland Methodist Church with Rev. H.F. Turner as the officiating minister. Interment will be in Courtland Cemetery. Surviving Mr. Drake are his wife, Mrs. Eunice Beale Drake, four children, R.T. Jr., Eunice, Marie and Doris Ann, four brothers, V.L. Drake of Courtland and E.W., J.C. and E.B. Drake, all of Handsom, and four sisters, Mrs. L.B. Maddrey of Severn, N.C., Mrs. J.L. Porter of Newsoms, and Mrs. S.E. Whitfield and Mrs. J.L. Boone of Handsom. ****************************************************************************** The funeral of Ridley Thomas Drake who died February 25th at his home on the Franklin-Courtland road, was held Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Courtland Methodist Church with Rev. H.F. Turner, pastor of the deceased, officiating, assisted by Rev. Gordon L. Price of the Courtland Baptist Church and Rev. A.K. Lambdin of the Newsoms Methodist Church. Interment was in the Courtland cemetery. He was in the 42nd year of his life when taken by death and for the last ten years had been a well loved citizen of the Courtland community. "We Are Going Down the Valley One by One" and "God Will Take Care of You" were sung by the choir, with a solo, "Does Jesus Care," by Mrs. C.W. Parker. There was a large attendance and may floral offerings. Active pallbearers were: C.W. Williams, T.B. Bell, C.W. Parker, Jas. T. Gillette, W.B. Ellis, H.A. Gillette, T.H. Birdsong, Jr., and F.L. Davis.
