All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ ROSA ALICE DRAKE Mrs. Rosa Alice Drake, 70, a lifelong resident of Southampton County, died at her residence near Newsoms on Sunday, February 19, at 9:10 a.m. after a long illness. She was the widow of William Norman Drake and the daughter of the late William H. and Mrs. Fannie Vick Drake. She was a member of the Barnes Methodist Church. Mrs. Drake is survived by one son, W.T. Drake of Newsoms; six daughters, Mrs. Lena Worrell of Severn, N.C.; Miss Virginia M. Drake and Mrs. Cosey Gray of Newsoms, Mrs. Willa Story and Mrs. Lonie Williams of Boykins and Mrs. Lucy Tyler of Richmond; one brother, W.B. Drake of Hampton; 11 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at Barnes Methodist Church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock by Rev. O.L. Gochenour, pastor of the church, assisted by Rev. Ben Ussery, pastor of Boykins Baptist Church. Burial was in Newsoms Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Marshall T. Vick, James Q. Worrell, Sylvester Drake, H.A. Barrett, Sr., Dr. J.M. Bland, L.J. Sanford, J.T. Parker and V.D. Thorne. Friends of the family served as honorary pallbearers. Rosa Alice (DRAKE; Mrs. William N.)
